he Otis House exemplifies the elegant life led by Boston's
governing class after the American Revolution. Harrison Gray
Otis made a forturne developing Beacon Hill, served as a
member of Congress, and was later a U.S. Senator and third
mayor of Boston. This house on Cambridge Street was the first
of three houses designed for Otis by his friend Charles Bulfinch,
the artitect for the Massachusetts State House.
Directions:
The Otis House Muesum is located in downtown Boston at the
foot of Beacon Hill, an easy walk from Charles/MGH, Bowdoin
Square (closed weekends), and Government Center subway stops.
