of Slavery, Education Reform, Immigration, or the history
of the 20th Century, Framingham has been at the center of
it all. Our timeline includes the resettlement of the Salem
Witches, Crispus Attucks and Peter Salem, Chautauqua, Harmony
Grove, Framingham State College, war and peace.
Our
current major exhibition, Abbondanza! The Richness of
Italian American Life in Framingham, opens March 26 to
August 28, 2004. It features trunks, passports and personal
belongings brought from Italy, and objects and photographs
representing Italian-owned businesses and institutions.
Directions:
Mass Pike to exit 13 (Rt. 30). Take Rt. 30 West until it
merges with Rt. 9 West. Pass Dunkin Donuts, Whole Foods,
and Staples on right. Take next exit at Trolley Square and
turn right at light onto Edgell Road. Take your first left
onto Oak Street (Edgell Memorial Library on the corner).
Take first right onto Vernon Street, (Old Academy at the
corner of Vernon Street and Grove Street.)

Framingham Historical Society and Museum was founded in 1888,
and continues to play an active role in community life. A
diverse range of educational programs include: Patterns in
History, which brings every third-grade student in Framingham
to the museum for tours and activities; an annual house tour
of eight to ten historically significance houses, some new,
some old; publications: a history of Framingham by Stephen
Herring, articles, exhibition catalogs, and a newly redesigned
Web site.
