Brookline Historical Society operates three historic properties,
two of which---The Edward Devotion House and the Putterham
School---are open by appointment.
Several generations of
Brookline's farming families lived in the Devotion House,
one of Brookline's oldest colonial structures. Its collections
represent Brookline's evolution from an agricultural community
to a prosperous, ethnically diverse suburb. The 18th-century
one-room Putterham School was used continuously from c.1768
to 1922 and contains school furniture and artifacts.
Directions:
The Devotion House is located on Harvard Street, in Brookline,
between Commonwealth Avenue and Beacon Street, two blocks
from Coolidge Corner (Beacon Street and Harvard Street).
The Putterham School is located in Larz Anderson Park.
