yhe National Archives and Records Administration ensures access to material that documents the rights of American citizens, the actions of federal officials, and the national experience. We manage U.S. Government records and assist federal agencies in documenting their activities. We appraise, accession, arrange, describe, preserve, and provide access to documents related to the three branches of government; manage the Presidential Libraries system; and publish laws, regulations, Presidential and other public documents.

The National Archives and Records Administration - Northeast Region (Boston) is a center for research, and a depository for historical records from federal agencies and courts in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, MassachThe National Archives and Records Administrationusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. We serve anyone who needs information created or received by the federal government---historians, genealogists, lawyers, scholars, government officials, environmentalists, students, and others. We also sponsor workshops to educate the public about archives, history, genealogy, and related subjects, and host student interns, school groups, and others who want to learn more about archives.

Our holdings consist of more than 28,000 cubic feet of historical records dating from the 1780s to the 1970s, among them photographs, maps, and architectural drawings, created or received by nearly 90 federal agencies. The records are diverse in content, documenting such topics as maritime history; legal history in civil, criminal, admiralty, equity, land-taking, and bankruptcy cases; the Depression and World War II eras in New England; immigration and naturalization; climatological history; flood control and harbor improvements; and the development of radar.
